In this review I have tested the VT Advantec Strips which is a form of lead tape but it’s not lead (from other review of their grip)”which is a company who focuses on reducing vibrations in your racquet and does making it more comfortable. The science behind is that energy transfers to your arm, impact increases the effort of racquet control and vibration decreases stability during and after contact. The material used is called the VT Smart Layer and it is made by world class scientists, engineers and technologists. So if they’ve used this kind of resources it has to be good! The results shown on the court was a cushioned impact with a more stable feel, consistent feel and a reduced level of effort that was still providing good power.” These strips are designed to increase the sweetspot of the racquet and to improve control, stability and feel during contact.

Similar to lead tape these strips can be placed in different positions to achieve different qualities. Most common choices is to place either 2 or 4 strips at the 3 and 9 o’clock position (if using 4 strips it’s one on each side of the strings and the same in the opposite side). You can also place 2 strips at 12 o’clock to create a more head heavy feeling. Personally I tried both 2 and 4 strips at 3 and 9 o’clock and found more success in using only 2 strips. I used the strips on my Pure Strike 18×20, I had limited testing since I only had 4 strips to use.
I’ve read a lot of positive reviews of these strips so I was really curious to try them my self. I need to be honest and say that I didn’t feel much of a diffrence in terms of playability of the racquet. The only thing I felt was the fact that all vibrations was gone. But since I normally use a dampener I really don’t have any trouble when it comes to vibrations. This combination with 4 strips and a dampener became to muted for me and I didn’t enjoy it at all, 2 strips worked just fine but then I wouldn’t feel much of a difference. I tried removing my dampener and the feel came back but the main reason I use a dampener is to get rid of that *ping sound. I have to be honest, personally I wouldn’t use these just because I already use a dampener and think the strips cuts off all the feel that’s left when used together.
